Two German inventors created a laundry bag to prevent shedding microfibers ending up in oceans
Synthetic materials are poisoning our oceans and food supply. When we think of the issue, images of plastic bottles and bags come to mind, but micro waste from synthetic textiles are a huge part of the problem, too.
The problem starts in the laundry. An alarming number of tiny fibers from synthetic fabrics are making their way from washing machines into rivers and oceans. Unfortunately, neither washing machines nor sewage treatment plants effectively filter out the microfibers. Once in the environment, these fibers concentrate pervasive bacteria and pollutants. The tiny fibers are consumed by aquatic organisms and result in gastrointestinal infections and blockages, reproductive problems, and starvation—problems that ultimately work their way up the food chain.
Guppy friend, a mesh laundry bag, was designed and marketed specifically to prevent microfiber pollution. Its goal is to reduce plastics and micro waste pollution in the world’s rivers and oceans. Guppy Friend also has the purpose to draw attention to the microfiber pollution and to be a piece of the puzzle to stop micro waste. In addition, Guppy Friend helps extending the lifetime of your apparel - no matter if made from natural or synthetic materials
A single microfiber can't be recognized with the naked eye. However, the micro fibers accumulate at the border of the bag and can be removed once they become visible. Micro fibers can be removed by hand after each wash or after several washing cycles.
